This may not be the perfect solution for everyone's desk, but it really fits my needs. There's a place in my office where "all cords come together", sort of like a freeway interchange. What a mess around my desk area. Well, I solved all the unsightly cords behind open desk back with a fabric panel (that looks great), and got all the cords corraled by this one unit, that actually sits on top of my desk at the very back edge. It's very useful and I don't have to go digging around in the back of my desk on the floor to plug or unplug cords now. That's getting a bit harder now that I'm in my late 70's so this was really necessary and wonderful. I still have expansion room as I have 6 plug-ins used right now, and two of the usb ports are in constant use as well; one for my phone charger and the other for a speaker on my desk. Still plenty of both kinds of ports available. I'm good for the rest of my life, probably! It's also not terribly unsightly as my desk is black and the printer right beside the charger is black so it blends right in, if that's important. What WAS important to me was not so much its appearance, as its functionality. There are many units "out there" that function similarly, offering creative solutions to a real problem. This one just seemed to fit the bill for me. I really liked the fact that it screws onto the edge of my desk; doesn't require holes to be made in my desktop. And it's very sturdy!
